While we can’t promise you those dreamy, cool fall days you see on social media, fall in College Station has something different to offer. While temperatures don’t really start dropping until much closer to December, there are still a few telltale signs that fall has arrived in our small town.
As Texans, we spend most of the summer counting down the days until fall. After months of triple-digit temperatures and avoiding the outdoors whenever possible, most of us are more than ready for a break from the heat. Sure, there are a few people who claim to love summer year-round, but for the majority of us, fall can’t come soon enough.
And when it finally arrives, the entire town transforms.
1. Tailgates, Midnight Yell and Game Day Fever
Not only does fall bring the possibility of cooler weather, but it also signals the return of one of the most beloved seasons in College Station: football season.
Saturdays are no longer as open as they once were, but nobody is complaining. Whether you’re spending the day tailgating, watching from your apartment, or standing for hours in the Texas sun inside the stadium there is nothing quite like football season in Aggieland. The energy around town changes. Maroon takes over every corner of the city, game day outfits become a weekly tradition, and weekends revolve around cheering on the Aggies.
2. Fall Flavors and Local Markets
Football may be one of the biggest signs of fall, but it is far from the only one.
The pumpkin patches begin popping up around town. Farmers markets and local vendor events take on a different feel as seasonal treats, fall decorations, and handmade goods fill the booths. Coffee shops swap their summer menus for pumpkin-flavored everything, and suddenly everyone is walking around with a seasonal drink in hand despite it still being 85 degrees outside.
3. Campus and Community Life
Fall is also one of the best times to get outside and explore. While our daily commute to class forces us outdoors throughout the year, fall is different. People actually want to be outside, soaking in the weather we’ve missed for so long. As temperatures begin to cool, public spaces start filling up again, creating a sense of community all around College Station. Students gather at Aggie Park, friends spend afternoons shopping and dining at Century Square, and outdoor patios become some of the most popular spots in town. Whether it’s taking a walk through campus, spending an afternoon in Century Square, or checking out a local market on the weekend, there is a sense of excitement that comes with this time of year. The semester is in full swing, traditions are underway, and there is always something happening around town.

Maybe fall in College Station doesn’t look exactly like it does in the movies. We may not get colorful leaves covering every street or sweater weather by October, but we do get game days, community events, pumpkin patches, local markets, and the excitement that comes with a new season.
And honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
